  • Valentine’s Day for Dateless Parents

    Aug 29, 2019

Show yourself some love on Valentine’s Day!

Valentine’s Day is a time to celebrate love, but if you’re a single parent, romantic love might be the furthest thing from your mind.  If you’re dateless this February 14, don’t let it get you down. There’s still plenty of love to celebrate. Here are some ideas on how to have a joyous Valentine’s Day, unattached or otherwise!

    Celebrate Your Children

    1. Have an Encouragement Feast, Valentine’s Day Edition.  What a great day to express what we love about each other.
    2. Make home-made Valentine’s Day cards for each other and for friends.
    3. Have “date night” with your kids, candles and all!
    4. Bake heart shaped cookies for decorating, then eating.
    5. Show your kids how to “love” others, by taking them to volunteer, or making cards and cupcakes for the elderly in your neighborhood who won’t have anyone on Valentine’s Day.

    Celebrate Your Friends

    1. Round up available friends for a group dinner date at your favorite restaurant.
    2. Exchange Valentine’s Day cards and/or gifts with your close friends and find time to tell each what you love about them.
    3. If you have your kids that evening, call your friends over to your house for tacos and a movie.
    4. Make it a spa day, get mani-pedis, or go out for a round of golf.
    5. Go see a comedy show for hearty laughs.

    Celebrate YOU

    1. Fall in love with YOU!  Make a list of all the things you love about yourself and post it somewhere you can see it on Valentine’s Day, and after.
    2. Pamper yourself.  Make an appointment for a haircut, massage, or manicure.
    3. Treat yourself. Go out and buy yourself something nice. You deserve it.
    4. Wine and dine yourself.  If you can’t handle eating at a restaurant on your own, order take-out from your favorite eatery.
    5. Find something new to love. If you’ve always been interested in trying something new, why not indulge yourself and just go for it as your Valentine’s Day treat.  Whether it’s yoga, sky-diving, or skeet-shooting, a new experience is gift to treasure.

No matter what your romantic situation is, LOVE is the order of the day for Valentine’s Day.  May your hearts be bursting with love this February 14.
